In line with the Political Declaration, the 27 EU Member States agreed on 25 February 2020 on the negotiating mandate of the European Commission, which negotiates on behalf of the Member States the future relationship between the EU and the UK. On this basis, Michel Barnier, the EU`s chief negotiator, presented in mid-March a draft comprehensive agreement on the new partnership with Britain, to which other elements have been added. This and other texts are available on the website of the Task Force for Relations with the United Kingdom. In this scenario, UK and EU negotiators fail to agree on a trade deal before 1 January 2021 and no transitional extension is agreed. During the transition period, Britain and the EU continue to negotiate their new relationship. .
